  1. Allow auto-fighting

    If the goal of the game is to program the "best" AI, then it would be nice to be able to set a flag on my bot, indicating it's willingness to participate in auto-matches while I'm not online. So that rather than spending my time clicking a button, watching a replay, clicking the button again, etc. I could just set my bot to fight in my absence, then come back tomorrow and see how it's getting along, see who it's lost to the most in the meantime, and adapt the code accordingly.

    It sucks to have to press a button…

    • Clones

      1) Clones have less life, maybe they should also cause less damage with their bullets?

      2) I would think the purpose of a clone is to confuse the enemy robots to not know what the real (original) bot is. But right now the parentId, id and possible the life do reveal that information on the collision and scanned event. Thoughts?

        • Have a console.

          Need a console to get feedback about what the bot is doing. It is very hard to figure out what the bug is unless you dismantle your code as it stands. A line number on the errors would go a long way to help figure out whats going on as well.

          • Provide an offline testing script.

            aichallenge had an offline runner to test your bot. It came with a couple examples and you could download open source bots or just play against your own to see how you are doing.

            It was great for a couple reasons:

            * I could use an editor of my choice and just hit a button to test.
            * I could run as many copies as I had cores, so pretty rapidly I could see if my bot's win rate against other versions and other bots was good enough.

            • Code robots in CoffeeScript

              Since CodeMirror supports CoffeeScript I would love to be able to code my robots with it. There is the additional step of compiling for the live preview but I think that should be no headache to implement.

              • Do some debugging with different browsers

                I have experienced some issues with different browsers such as firefox have problems with the tiles on the tanks and in chrome there is something with the scrollbar in the code window. I have talked to a couple of my friends and it seems that they have problems like it but not equal to mine. Great game by the way!

                  It would be nice to be able to watch the values so it is easier to debug a robot and observe actual values.

                  • incorporate some MMO/RPG elements into the game

                    I think it would be really cool if bots could attain long-term achievements like access to better weapons, improve radar, as well as giving the player meaningful choices like whether to upgrade armor or energy regeneration or lower cannon cooldown times, etc.

                      For when a bullet is fired, a robot explodes, etc. Also add the option to disable them.

                      • Allow the robot to issue commands to a clone (and vice versa)

                        A robot should be, for example, able to tell a clone to stop() and rotateCannon() if it saw an enemy that the clone has not seen yet.

                          I am thinking whether both types of collision, wallCollision and robotCollision should cause damage.

                          This would encourage people to write better bots that would try to avoid those events, and also possibly reduce those simple but ugly wall robots.

                            It would be nice to be able to post messages to other players to e.g. congratulate, psyche or taunt them, or to comment on their robots.

                              We want to support his feature, but we are not sure how to stop harassment. The team behind fightcode is still talking about how to implement it. As soon as we reach a way to do it that´s both cool and safe, we´ll update this ticket.

                            • Power-ups!

                              Every now and then, plop a power-up on the field. This can be something that takes effect automatically (such as more powerful ammo, or faster tank speed), something that needs to be coded for (such as an additional cloneAvailable), or something that really screws with the game world (such as swapping "left" and "right" directions, giving both tanks multiple guns, or making the game world 3D instead of 2D).
